Someone is going to inherit that property, most likely the adopted daughter - unless he has a will that left it to someone else and that survives a potential challenge - that person may decide to sell the property and eventually they or the new owner may not renew your lease and you may need to move. In the meantime there is really no one to pay rent to, but that does not mean you do not woe it, so make sure you have the cash on hand as when they ask for it you need to pay it. I would also be worried that utilities, taxes may not be paid by her if there is no designated executor, unless you pay all utilities directly you may find yourself with no electricity or water or gas at some point. If the property is mortgaged that is another concern as the bank will move to re-posses eventually due to missed payments, in that case at least you will hear from the bank If her estate has an executor I assume they will contact you and provide details, and of course you will pay the rent to the estate
