What is the difference between a lease and a rental agreement?

What is the difference between a lease and a rental agreement? I have a rental Agreement signed and documented, but on my eviction notice it states that Im being evicted because I broke my lease. In the US, in general, the two terms are used interchangeably in real estate. In general use, a rental agreement is normally a short-term item, such as renting a refrigerator or a car. A lease is long-term, one year or more. But a tenant is a tenant and whether its a rental agreement or a lease, its all the same. You wont get out of an eviction on that as a technicality.
